Days 10 & 11: A Ballet and a Short Story

Standard

Friday I took Daughter and friend-of-a-friend’s daughter out to see the PNB Nutcracker complete with sets designed by Maurice Sendak.  We’d not seen it since Daughter was six, and she really enjoyed it.  She also enjoyed gm’ing a LARP (live action roleplaying game) during intermission with her friend.

Today I didn’t get nearly as much cleaning done as I wanted to, but I did make an amazing (and amazingly simple) French-inspired dinner of chicken roasted in a salt mix including herbs de provence complete with lavender, roasted carrots and brussels sprouts, and mushroom risotto with left over rice and a heaping pile of chantrelles, which are abundant this season.  We finished it up with berry pie warmed in the oven and vanilla ice cream.  I also finished the first draft of the short story due on the 15th.  It doesn’t leave much time to have it checked over and given a revision, but I do hope it’s enough.  I was really struggling through the pain and found it hard to get into the minds of the two characters as much as I’d have liked.  If it’s rejected, I’m not sure if I could polish it and sell it off somewhere else, since it’s meeting a specific theme.  Then again, maybe it’ll be cute enough to find a place somewhere that appreciates humorous erotica.

Lots of tea and water the last two days.  My throat’s feeling sore, and my body is run down, so I’ve made lots of different healing tisanes and the like.  Vitamins taken on both days.  Lots of weight gain, but I attribute it to retained water.  If I’m fighting off something, then my body will need even more water than my 64oz. quota.
